Cut after you order. Joined so it can be taken apart and mended.

The Rook Bookcase comes in three widths, all built the same way: solid posts, through tenons and oak pegs.

    1. You order, we choose the boards

Boards for your piece are picked and cut after you order, so the grain on a tabletop can be matched across its width.

    2. Joined with wood

Mortise and tenon for frames, dovetails for drawers, wedged tenons for legs. Joints are glued with hide glue, which softens with heat and moisture, so a joint can be opened and glued again during a repair.

    3. Oiled, then looked after

Bring a piece back to the workshop and we re-glue, re-oil or re-weave it, and tell you the price before we start.

    Caring for it

Oiled wood can be sanded and oiled again.

An oil finish soaks into the wood instead of sitting on top as a film, so a scratch or a ring from a glass can be sanded out in one spot and re-oiled. A lacquered surface has to be stripped first.

    Wood
Wipe with a damp cloth and dry it straight away. Re-oil when water stops beading on the surface.
    Wool
Check the care label before washing a cover. Most wool wants a cool, gentle wash or dry cleaning.
